Why Fly With Virga?
For students or renters seeking a traditional flight training experience at a small local airport Fly With Virga offers a 1946 Aeronca Champ which has been upgraded to a 118hp Lycoming O-235, with full electrical system, panel mounted radio, transponder, and Citabria 'no bounce' gear for higher gross weight.

The combination of those elements makes for an outstanding primary trainer, and exceptional tailwheel transition tool. Plus, tailwheel time in your logbook is a great way to improve general flying skills or land an interview with a future aviation employer.

Austin's philosophy is to engage the student within the full operating envelope of the aircraft, under the pretense  of real world aeronautical decision making. This means that in addition to the necessary academic pursuits, a pilot should also be capable of common sense aviation fundamentals like recognizing the difference between 'chain is wet' and 'chain is gone'.

Other factors to consider extend beyond price to include proximity to your home, the type of weather common to particular airports, and the training outcome you seek. It's also important to develop a relationship with the person or organization renting the aircraft to you so that you can have a better understanding of the type and quality of maintenance being performed an aircraft that you're renting and to make sure that the availability and ease of scheduling the flying machine, suits your needs.

Austin always recommends that prospective clients go for an orientation flight at Ridgeline Aviation, and Summit Aviation in Bozeman, MT. Doing so will give a student the most context in choosing the best fit for them. Fly With Virga is for profit, but strives to have the vibe of a small flying club without the wait list. If you're unfamiliar with flying clubs, Austin recommends two reputable clubs in the Gallatin Valley. These are the Three Forks Flying Club, and the Manhattan Flying Tigers.

For those wondering whether Livingston, Gardiner, and Wilsall are too windy... They sure are windy, but Park County has produced some outstanding pilots over the years. Within the capabilities of the airplane, embrace the wind!

Aircraft Ferry

If you're facing the daunting task of moving an unfamiliar aircraft over a long distance to include Alaska or Hawaii, give us a call. We maintain experience across the Southeastern United States, through the high density altitude of the Rocky and Sierra Mountains, the congested airspace of the California, Western Canada and the Alaska Panhandle, and well into the Alaskan interior including operations north of the arctic circle.

Austin's experience includes high performance turbocharged piston airplanes, challenging tailwheel machines, and high performance turboprop aircraft. If he can't move your plane, or doesn't have time to, he probably knows someone who can, so give him a call.

Professional Pilot & Aircraft Management Services
